For this project I was tasked to create a visual system for festivals in San Francisco. This Festival is Called the Ka HoKu Festival, translated as The Festival of Stars. This festival is rooted in my Hawaiian culture, celebrating the practice of wayfinding. Wayfinding is the practice of navigation through the stars when sailing. For this project I was tasked with branding, wayfinding design for this event, print collateral, and digital comps.
My design goals for this project was to use a strong color palette that represented the ocean in Hawaii with the accompaniment of brighter colors that showed the vibrant nature of sailing. I wanted to create a visually appealing brand that demanded the attention of whoever viewed it. I also create a logo/icon that represents a compass as well as a start two things necessary for wayfinding. I wanted to showcase another side of Hawaiian culture through this project.
